This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership to the Hazardous Waste team on the day-to-day activities of the regime. This work sits alongside work on regulatory reform and is also likely to have a role in helping the team to transition the regime from reform to ‘business as usual’. The role duties and responsibilities are: • Waste classification technical leadership • Technical leadership for Hazardous Waste compliance and internally driven initiatives to improve compliance • Enhanced leadership of priority waste streams • Technical support to focus on priority waste streams and upstream, driven both by area teams and national teams • Tackle regulatory challenges, secure long-term improvements in the regulatory regime and support Defra with Hazardous Waste circular economy work. • Have a Hazardous Waste enforcement focus to support actions identified in the control strategy to reduce offending The team The Environment & Business (E&B) Hazardous Waste team is a small high performing team, part of the Regime Regulation team within E&B Waste Regulation. We lead the business on hazardous waste, supporting Government, industry and colleagues to ensure that hazardous waste is correctly managed. In E&B we promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued. We use evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to support delivery, influence policy, legislation, and secure resources.
