We’re offering an exciting opportunity for two experienced managers to join our national team, which leads strategic relationships with water companies. You’ll manage a small team of account officers and be supported by technical experts in water quality, resources, and planning. In this role, you’ll work closely with Area Directors, Leadership Teams, and the Director of Operations to improve water company performance and ensure delivery of their business plans. You’ll lead the annual cycle of performance meetings, collaborate with other account managers for national consistency, and support the delivery of environmental policy objectives. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of the water industry and its regulatory framework. You’ll need to be confident working within this structure and skilled at influencing senior leaders to drive better environmental outcomes. You’ll also lead internal virtual teams, manage director-level meetings with water companies, and represent the Environment Agency on Water Company Customer Challenge Groups—ensuring environmental priorities are central to decision-making. One role is based in the South of England and the other in the Midlands. Applicants must live in or near these areas to attend regular in-person meetings. Occasional national travel and overnight stays are also required. The team Operations Catchment Services is a national-once department providing environmental planning, account management and evidence delivery expertise. We offer high quality services and are the home of technical excellence for the water resources and water quality planning professions. You'll join the accounts management service. Our job is to work across operations, supporting directors and their staff to influence water companies to improve performance, reduce environmental impact and enhance and improve the environment through activities and investment. Experience/skills required We are looking for candidates with either an environmental degree, or equivalent relevant experience. You will draw on skills to deliver this role and will need to demonstrate your ability in the following areas: • Knowledge and practical experience of water company regulation and/or planning • Sound knowledge of the environmental, political and economic pressures impacting on the water environment • Excellent ability to lead and influence cross-functionally with a strong customer focus • Effective communication and negotiation skills, verbal and written, in dealing with business colleagues at all levels • Analytical thinking allowing you to review potential issues and identify value added solutions • Ability to build respectful working relationships with emotional intelligence • Ability to manage and present data and information effectively • Elements of this work are time critical, therefore a flexible work style and ability to work with pace and agility are essential.
