Job summary The Imaging Department Assistant will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team involved in the provision of a patient centred imaging service. The post holder will assist the Directorate's radiographic staff in maintaining the patient environment to the highest standard. Where appropriate the post holder will assist clinical members of the team during radiological examinations and procedures. Due to service needs, it may be necessary from time to time, for the post-holder to be moved to alternative duties within their competence. The post-holder will work shifts as required with an expectation to provide cover for other Imaging Support Workers absences to meet service needs. In line with service needs they may be required to provide clerical support including reception duties, attending patients on arrival within the department and telephone enquiries. The following principles of good practice will be a fundamental requirement of the post-holder in the delivery of high-quality patient care: *support individuals' rights and choices *support individuals through effective communication *maintain confidentiality of information *acknowledge individuals' personal beliefs and identity *promote anti-discriminatory practice *maintain safety and security of individuals *works under close supervision within well established procedures The post-holder will be required to gain the required knowledge and skills to meet the Occupational Standards relevant to the post. Main duties of the job To liaise with radiographers and with reference to prioritising patients. To assist and support Radiographers, assistant practitioners and Radiologists when undertaking imaging examinations of patients. To communicate with patients and carers in difficult circumstances. To be able to persuade and encourage patients in a tactful manner. To ring wards and organise patient's visits to the department, and to communicate with portering staff. To contact and liaise with transport when arranging for out patients to return home. To observe the condition of the patient, and to be able to identify and employ the most appropriate and effective method of moving the patient. To observe patients in waiting areas, reporting changes or concerns with the patient's condition to a radiographer or registered nurse immediately. To prepare examination rooms, assist in clinical areas and with moving patients. To be able to identify respiratory or cardiac arrest and take action immediately.
