Job Description
Job summary This is an exciting opportunity for a band 7 (0.4 WTE, 15 hours) specialist rehabilitation and respiratory physiotherapist to join our existing Intensive Care Unit (ICU) multi-professional team (12-month FTC). The ICU at the Royal Free Hospital site ((RFH) NHS Foundation Trust)) consists of a 54 beds-including an 8-bed high dependency and 12-bed post anaesthetic care unit. A wide variety of patients from specialist services including hepatobiliary/vascular surgery and liver/renal transplantation are admitted. The successful candidate will sit within the largest therapy team (Critical care, Medicine ((including sleep and ventilation) and Surgery-CMS)) at the RFH site. This team comprises of more than 50 multi-professional team members working within an interdisciplinary model, in a co-located environment. The postholder will be directly responsible for the provision of physiotherapy to intensive care patients with a significant emphasis on complex respiratory management, rehabilitation and ventilation/tracheostomy weaning. Additionally, as RFH is a designated highly infective disease centre, the postholder will gain experience in the only active high level isolation unit within the country, treating conditions such as Ebola virus. Support is provided by a band 8a clinical lead ICU physiotherapist/speech and language therapist, band 8a Advanced Care Practitioner (ACP) physiotherapist and three band 7 peers, as well as our respiratory physiotherapy consultant. Main duties of the job As a progressive team our physiotherapy ACP is an independent prescriber, our clinical lead is an accredited lung ultrasound mentor and several multi-professional team members have gained post graduate master's qualification. As a result, we are equipped to progress and support senior staff members on their chosen career path both clinically and academically. The post holder will provide training and education to the CMS team as well as to the wider multi-disciplinary team with an emphasis on simulation training. Regular presentation at national and international conferences are ongoing and we are a research active therapy department (working closely with the ICU consultants and research nursing team on NIHR/Warwick trials), with designated therapy research/education leads and a clinical trial co-ordinator. Additionally, the trust provides excellent in-house leadership training programs and access to coaching and mentorship. These are especially important as the post holder will not only line manage staff within their own profession: they will also manage those within other professions due to our interdisciplinary model About us The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK's biggest and most innovative trusts. Across three main hospitals, our dedicated army of staff care for over 1.6million patients, treat more than 200,000 in A&E, deliver over 8,000 babies and carry out more than 17million tests.
