Would you thrive in a political environment, providing broad-ranging support to Cabinet Members? If so, this may be the job for you. As a Cabinet Officer, you will join the Cabinet Office team and support the Leader and Cabinet Members as we navigate an increasingly challenging economic environment. You will help the Cabinet shape and build on our nationally leading policy platform and deliver on the commitments we have made residents. With a good understanding of Local Government and its ways of working, you will support the delivery of projects, policy and strategy development for at least four Cabinet Members; provide high-quality policy advice, forward planning and sourcing research to ensure your Cabinet Member is fully briefed on the key issues in their portfolio; and build strong internal networks to facilitate the relationships between the Cabinet and senior Council officers. You will also support engagement with key external stakeholders. This role is a brilliant opportunity to develop your skills in the heart of the Council’s democratic and political arena. About The Team You’ll Be Working In The role is based in the Communities and Strategy Directorate and reports to the Head of Cabinet Office. The team, and your position in it, plays a vital role in supporting the political life of the Local Authority and the Council decision making processes which affect every resident and visitor to Hounslow, a vibrant borough which covers a large amount of West London from Feltham in the West to Brentford and Chiswick in the East. As Cabinet Officer, you will be working closely with Cabinet Members, officers from across the Authority and various local and external stakeholders. About You Here are some of the things we’re looking for - if the points below resonate with you, we’d love you to put in an application: You will be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, and able to act as first point of contact, ensuring effective communications between Cabinet Members, senior Council officers and key external stakeholders. You have experience of project delivery and excellent time management skills, possessing the ability to respond positively in urgent situations, prioritising workload and working to meet tight deadlines and resolve issues. You will have strong research and policy support skills – and able to draft and compile documents and communications such as briefings, articles, speeches, and reports of a complex nature as required. You will demonstrate a good knowledge of Local Government, including Council policy and processes. You will have experience of helping to develop strategy and policy, with analysis of implications. Qualifications: You may well have an undergraduate degree or a postgraduate qualification, but what matters more is your commitment to high-quality public service and the ability to show how you have been able to make a difference through your work. The post holder may be required to work outside of normal working hours in accordance with service needs, including attendance at some evening meetings.
