Finance Officer Full time, temporary contract Commencing June 2025 until 31/12/25 initially, with the opportunity to become permanent (37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year term time plus 10 days directed time during the school holidays) Thank you for your interest in this important role in our school. The successful candidate will play an important part in administrating the finance operations of the School, working as part of the wider administrative team. We number around 1,700 students and 200 staff, and we are over-subscribed in every year group. Our approach to Curriculum for Wales is founded on the importance of subjects and on the principle of powerful knowledge. We are fully comprehensive and provide for a wide range of learning needs. Currently there are 14% of the school population on the Register for Additional Learning Needs. We also have an integrated Specialist Resource Base, which is also the subject of a recent Estyn case study for its exceptionally strong provision. Students come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and the rolling average for FSM is 13.8%. Purpose of the Job The purpose of the role is to assist in the organisation and maintenance of the School’s Finance systems, including ordering and payment of invoices within Agresso. Responsibilities Raise orders for supplies and equipment and registering invoices for payment in Agresso, ensuring that authorisation has been received from the relevant budget holder. Maintain Imprest reimbursement system; raising cheques for individuals/suppliers when necessary, and ensuring appropriate budgetary authorisation. Keep an accurate record of expenditure, preparing monthly bank reconciliations for approval by Business Manager. Ensure all income is regularly banked and correctly coded; preparation of weekly banking for cheques/cash received for depositing and approval by Business Manager prior to submission to MCC. Ensure all income/expenditure is correctly coded to ensure maximum use of all budgets and grants, preparing regular statements for budget holders for approval by the Business Manager, keeping them up to date with departmental costs including photocopying and other resources purchased. Advise budget holders of approved suppliers and assist them to gain value for money and prompt delivery maximising budgets and minimising potential disruption to teaching and learning. Undertake other duties in connection with the administration of the scheme of financial delegation as may become necessary and as discussed and agreed with the postholder. Education/Qualifications/Experience/Skills Relevant qualification in literacy and numeracy at NVQ Level 2 or equivalent - essential AAT or equivalent qualification - desirable General administrative background - essential Experience of participating and working in a team - essential Experience of school, college or training setting - desirable A good knowledge of general IT packages e.g. Excel, Word - essential Application Application forms can be downloaded - we do not accept CVs.
