We're looking for an exceptional Interim Head of Finance to join our Hillingdon based team in Greater London.. This is an excellent opportunity to help shape the financial future of one of London`s largest local authorities and lead one of the most high-profile local authority finance portfolios in the country. Based in Uxbridge, with hybrid working available, this will be joining a function at a moment of significant challenge, opportunity and transformation. You will lead and manage the Homes & Communities Finance Teams within Financial Management, supporting, Homes & Communities, advising on relevant aspects of strategic finance and business partnering, alongside comprehensive financial direction, support and guidance to a range of Council’s services and Directorates. The range of responsibilities will include: supporting transformation and business led projects within Homes & Communities, ensuring that timely and robust financial information is provided to support with decision making and take an active role in shaping outcomes of projects. Ensuring that budgets are realigned to deliver savings targets, reporting timing differences in delivery. Ensure that Senior Management and their budget managers are supported to deliver their accountability for budget management and that directorates comply with Financial Standing Orders and all other financial policies and procedures as directed by the Director of Corporate Finance. Providing financial leadership and strategic advice to directorates to enable them to develop robust financial plans and ensure that the future needs of the service are reflected in the Council’s medium term financial forecast (MTFF). Ensure the provision of high-quality financial advice and accurate and timely financial information to Corporate Directors, Heads of Service and budget managers across the directorates. Leading on the financial modelling of demand led budgets, within Homes & Communities to ensure robust forecasts are established, working in conjunction with relevant senior managers within the Service areas, and to use the trend data to inform MTFF decision making. Establishing effective external working relationships with key stakeholders within the community, government, professional bodies and other appropriate public and private bodies to ensure the service has the knowledge and expertise to continuously improve its performance. About You: We are looking for a technically accomplished, politically astute and values-led finance professional who is keen to engage in strategic planning in its broadest sense. You will bring strategic insight, visible leadership and a collaborative mindset – and be motivated by the chance to make a genuine impact on the lives of Hillingdon`s residents. Our preferred candidate will have : A relevant degree in finance, accounting, or a related field and be CCAB Qualified ( such as being a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) or the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA)) . You will have Significant experience in local government finance, particularly in budget management, financial planning, and financial reporting, Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential. The ability to interpret and present financial data clearly and concisely is crucial. Leadership and management skills are also needed to oversee a team of finance professionals.
