This is a great opportunity for consultants who hold a CCT to start immediately with a view to becoming substantive. Locum Consultant Geriatrician with an interest in Movement Disorders This post is part of an expansion of our medical workforce now we have opened the Ageing Well Centre at the brand-new St Georges Health and Wellbeing Hub. The post holder will deliver high quality care to patients with a focus on maximising independence and supporting return to usual place of residence wherever possible as well as working on initiatives to optimise and improve services and care. The Neuroscience unit within BHRUT includes a comprehensive movement disorder unit. General consultant movement disorders clinics are held every week in addition to a monthly complex parkinsonism clinic and fortnightly Deep Brain Stimulation clinics. As well as the subspecialist interest, the post holder will have the opportunity to participate in the clinical activities at the Ageing Well Centre and the Frailty Virtual Ward – and work within the Acute sites in Acute or General Geriatrics, or in Community Geriatrics, dependent on experience and agreement, and will participate in the Geriatrics on-call rota. We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need totransform the A&E at Queen’sand get rid of corridor care. Our patients are benefitting from ourWomen’s Health Hubin Ilford; anAgeing Well Centrein Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) atBarking Community Hospitaland atSt George’s Health and Wellbeing Hubin Hornchurch. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year. The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients. The post holder will contribute to the development of the Frailty Service establishing an effective multi-disciplinary team to provide early comprehensive geriatric assessment and management to meet the needs of frail older patients at BHRUT. The post holder will build on the existing good relationships with primary and community care services so that frail, older people have risk factors identified and can be signposted to services that will support them to maintain their independence as close to home as possible and reduce the incidence of further crisis. This may include co-ordination of specialist multi- disciplinary meetings which include primary and community care services to ensure that patients have robust care plans which help them to stay healthy at home for as long as possible. The job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week, consisting of 8.5 DCC + 1.5 SPA. There is also a 1:8 weekend commitment and the hours are resident Saturday 08.00 – 20.00 and Sunday 08.00 – 16.00. The consultant will be given 1 day off in lieu post weekend working. The out of hours commitment (weekdays and weekends) is remunerated as 1 PA.
