Job summary A new role has arisen within Community Care PCN to welcome a General Practice Assistant. This is a new and innovative role designed to allow our GPs to minimise the time they spend on paperwork and administration, freeing them up for more time to spend with patients. You will be working in an innovative and forward-thinking environment, assisting GPs with tasks. Main duties of the job Sorting PCN clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others. Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment. Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc GPA Competency Framework 2 Explaining treatment procedures to patients Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s) Support the GP with immunisations/wound care About us Community Care Hall Green PCN in an innovative and forward thinking PCN, with community health at its heart. These tasks will include a blend of administrative and simple clinical tasks, and will require a desire to learn clinical terminology and procedures. A day could involve: sorting PCN clinical post and sorting by urgency; coding this post onto the system, using correct clinical terminology; preparing a nervous patient for an appointment; taking observations of the patient; arranging a follow up appointment; completing simple non-opinion forms for the GP to sign and liaising with external agencies. We would expect the role filler to be able to follow health and safety guidance and handle patient and business information confidentially. We would also expect the role filler to be able to interact in a polite and kind manner with our patients. Person Specification Experience Essential Educated GCSE level - with a GCSE pass in English and Maths or equivalent Experience in working in a healthcare environment Experience of using EMIS or SystmOne Experience of clerical and administrative work Willingness to undertake a GPA training course Organisational skills The ability to work to very high standards of performance and care Desirable GP Assistant Certificate qualification Experience of dealing with a range of clinical conditions Knowledge of QOF and DES Skills and Abilities Essential Ability to remain calm when dealing with difficult or distressed people.
