Job summary Working under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurse Phlebotomy Lead and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the phlebotomist will work within a team of experienced staff who provide phlebotomy services under a locally commissioned service at both Beccles Medical Centre and Cutlers Hill Surgery. Main duties of the job Obtain blood samples from patients in support of laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Perform a variety of routine blood drawing procedures, to include venepuncture, using standard equipment. Participate in the delivery of new warfarin monitoring service under the supervision of other clinicians. Interact directly with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears, and elicit cooperation. Ensure that the patient is comfortable and as relaxed as possible and confirm their agreement to collection of a blood sample. Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity Check patient identification against System 1 records Record collection of blood sample in the patients record using correct templates Ensure samples are stored appropriately Ensure samples are picked up by laboratory in a timely fashion Ensure that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notify the GP/Relevant clinician of any significant patients issues Managing and using equipment safely and in accordance with agreed procedures in place. They will also ensure that will adhere to practice policies and follow procedures in place. Raising concerns or updates as necessary.
