A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. Applications are invited for a fixed-term (12-months) post- or peri-CCT Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery, accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, at Royal Derby Hospitalto commence in October 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for post or peri-CCT trainees to develop skills in Bariatric surgery. The appointee will be actively involved in running of the bariatric unit and providing support for the Consultants, Specialist Bariatric Nurses, Dieticians, patient coordinators and medical team. The Bariatric Department at Royal Derby Hospital is well established providing bariatric services (elective and emergency) for Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. A full compliment of bariatric procedures is offered within the multi disciplinary unit. This is an excellent opportunity to join a varied and busy department that will provide opportunity for training and development. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Bariatric Department participating in theatre lists where training will be provided to develop skills in bariatric surgery. The post holder will run independent follow up clinics for bariatric patients and support consultants in outpatient clinics. Opportunity for training in endoscopy sessions is also available. The post holder will provide cover during day-time hours (8am to 5pm) for bariatric emergencies presenting to EMBMI They will be expected to participate in academic activities including research, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes. They will be actively involved in the running of the department providing support for the wider multi-disciplinary team. The appointee will actively participate in the UGI Department, including opportunities for research and teaching alongside a range of clinical duties including ward rounds, theatres and outpatient clinics. Applicants must hold MBBS or an equivalent medical qualification, FRCS (or equivalent) and be within 12-months of CCT date. Candidates will preferably hold a higher degree (MD or PhD) or equivalent. Applicants should also be proficient in laparoscopic procedures (cholecystectomy, fundoplication, appendicectomy and hernias) and have good laparoscopic suturing skills.
