Great British Nuclear (GBN) is a new government arm's length body supporting the delivery of Britain's energy security and net zero, making sure that we can power Britain from Britain sustainably. The Supply Chain, Improvement & Assurance Lead is responsible for ensuring the integrity of commercial transactions and driving continuous commercial improvement at Great British Nuclear (GBN). This role requires a proactive and solutions-oriented individual with strong problem-solving skills, a commitment to accountability, and extensive knowledge of procurement, contract management, and supply chain management principles. Day to day duties: Oversee the assurance of GBN's commercial transactions, including leading the establishment of the GBN Commercial Assurance Function and implementing the Procurement Board. Provide assurance for commercial transactions, including those that are high-value, complex, politically significant, and business-critical. Maintain robust governance to monitor and enhance key commercial activities. Collaborate with the Head of Commercial Project Delivery to ensure proactive management and planning of assurance and approval processes. Lead engagements with DESNZ, Cabinet Office, HMT, and other government bodies to ensure necessary controls are in place and an effective governance framework is implemented. Work alongside cross-functional stakeholders to advise on best practices, provide guidance, and support the development of robust commercial strategies and business cases while liaising with external governance bodies. Lead a team in delivering project-based activities that enhance assurance and supply chain functions, maintaining rigorous and consistent processes that support GBN in achieving and retaining ISO accreditation. Analyse and manage commercial processes to align with GBN's strategic objectives and operational needs. Address varied and complex challenges that require collaboration across functions and engagement with external organisations, including industry bodies, to identify improvement opportunities and implement risk mitigations. Develop and implement comprehensive assurance processes to manage supply chain risks. Oversee compliance monitoring to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies while upholding quality and safety standards. Knowledge, Skills and Experience required: Strong commercial acumen with the ability to grasp complex issues and challenge senior stakeholders effectively. Expertise in public sector procurement, including in-depth knowledge of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 (PCR15) and the Procurement Act 2023 (PA23). Familiarity with the HMT five-case model for business cases. Experience in developing and managing governance processes for complex, high-value, and business-critical projects and procurements, ensuring adherence to required approval and assurance frameworks. Strong understanding of supply chain management principles, practices, and industry standards, particularly within the nuclear or energy sectors. Proven ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and generate actionable insights that support performance enhancement. Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a focus on identifying challenges and implementing innovative solutions to foster continuous improvement. Knowledge of contracting principles, including NEC, mid-tier, and model services contracts. Familiarity with commercial management software and analytical tools, including advanced proficiency in data analysis platforms (e.g., Microsoft Excel, BI tools). Qualifications Degree level qualification preferably in a relevant subject or equivalent level of knowledge & experience. Membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) and/or International Association for Commercial and Contract Management (IACCM) accreditation are desirable.
