Distillery Operator LOCATION The Lakes Distillery CA13 9SJ RESPONSIBLE TO Operations Manager POSITION SUMMARY: Founded in 2011, The Lakes Distillery has an ambitious vision to become a luxury single malt whisky business and has reached a significant point in our growth. While the brand is still young, we have had real success and traction with small batch releases selling out and our whisky winning the title of “World’s Best Single Malt Whisky” in 2022. We are at a point in our journey where we can increase production, establish our roots globally, and deliver real growth across a 5-year plan and beyond. We are currently looking for a Distiller who will be responsible for carrying out distillery and warehouse operations, ensuring delivery against a suite of KPIs in line with overall business strategy whilst maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for, but not limited to: Hands-on production across all distillery functions Ensure consistent distillation of all our spirits – whisky, gin & vodka Collect, analyse and record mashing, fermentation and distilling data Be involved with stock and quality control of raw materials and end products Maintain compliance systems - Health & Safety, Environmental, HMRC, Quality Responsible for process training for new staff Be able to carry out Warehousing and Maturation operations at Cockermouth & Lillyhall Work with site management to plan production schedules Prepared to work a 24/7 shift rota, currently running on 24/5 – Monday-Friday Ensure plant hygiene and housekeeping is kept to a high standard across our sites KEY CHARACTERISTICS: Teamwork: We are looking for a team player who can become a valuable member of our close-knit team at the Lakes Distillery. Attention To Detail: Following standard operating procedures and accurate record keeping are fundamental aspects of this role. Organisation: Good time keeping and communication skills are essential to be successful. PERSON SPECIFICATION: Previous experience as whisky distiller high desirable IBD General Certificate in Distilling or equivalent / willingness to complete (Support Provided) High attention to detail, especially to quality standards and compliance systems Proactive, Continuous Improvement and problem-solving skills Adapt to change in rapidly growing business Proficiency in Microsoft applications desired Experience with SCADA and ERP systems desirable Technical and hands-on practical ability Previous experience in whisky production and maturation would be an advantage.
