Finance Assistant Finance Salary : £24,316 per annum Contract Type: Permanent Full time 37 hours per week Reference: REC2138 | Closing Date: Sunday, 11th May 2025 The Opportunity As our Finance Assistant, you’ll play an important role within the Finance Department, helping to ensure that all cash and banking transactions across the College are processed accurately and efficiently. You’ll work as part of the ledgers section and be responsible for managing day-to-day financial activities related to cash handling, banking, and reconciliation. You’ll be joining a strong and supportive finance team made up of 15 staff members, each contributing to the effective financial control and processes of the College. Within this team, your focus will be on the accurate handling of cash and the reconciliation of cash and debit/credit card takings. You’ll be counting and reconciling all incoming payments, posting bank transactions, and ensuring that all records are accurately maintained within the College’s accounting system. In addition, you’ll manage petty cash, PDQs, safes, and prepaid debit cards, while reviewing and testing the College’s cash control procedures to ensure compliance and consistency. You’ll advise staff on the secure storage and transfer of cash and provide guidance on the controlled collection of payments across departments. Dealing with customer account queries will also form part of your day-to-day responsibilities. This is a varied and hands-on position that allows you to build your skills within a well-established and collaborative finance team, playing your part in supporting the wider College community. About You For this role, you’ll need to be methodical, accurate, and confident in handling and reconciling cash and banking transactions. You should have a strong eye for detail and feel comfortable using financial systems and spreadsheets, making sure every transaction is recorded and processed correctly. You’ll be well-organised and able to manage your workload effectively, particularly when working to deadlines. As you'll be liaising with staff from across the College, you’ll need good communication and interpersonal skills. You should be approachable and able to explain financial procedures clearly, while also being tactful and professional when resolving queries or discrepancies. Ideally, you’ll have at least 12 months’ experience of working in a finance department, along with AAT Level 2 or an equivalent qualification. A proficient working knowledge of Excel is also essential, as you’ll use spreadsheets regularly to support accurate financial reporting and reconciliation. Experience with bank reconciliations, petty cash, and card payment systems would be an advantage. Most importantly, you’ll be a team player who’s keen to learn, contribute positively to the department, and take pride in keeping accurate and efficient financial records.
