Job title: Vehicle Examiner Salary: up to £50k (dependent on experience) Grade: SMD0 Contract type: LU Reference: 1023 Team: Vehicle Logistics - Fleet Directorate: Chief Operating Officer (COO) Contract details: Permanent Location: Acton, West London (Hybrid) Application closing date: 30/04/2025 at 23:59 We have a great opportunity for a Vehicle Examiner to join the Vehicle Logistics Team. You will monitor the quality and standard of the Vehicle Logistics fleet vehicles in accordance with the requirements of road transport legislation You will also provide professional and technical support to the Fleet Management including haulage and waste vehicles for circa 1200 vehicles. Key Accountabilities Responsible for assessing and estimating the cost of vehicle repairs to ensure all accident repairs meet the relevant standards in compliance with the Accident Management System. Assist customers with specific requirements for vehicle specifications. Inspection of new fleet vehicles to ensure that they comply with the customers' requirements/ specification and relevant standards. Inspection of vehicles at the end of lease and subsequent sign off of any additional costs. Assist vehicle logistics in the management of vehicle maintenance to diagnose, identify and assist in the technical issues that arise. Carry out regular inspections of fleet vehicles to mitigate against any infringement of current legislation relating to the Road Traffic Act which could jeopardise the Operator's License. Monitor Fleet suppliers to ensure quality standards are met. Undertake periodic weight checks on vehicles up to 3.5t. Ensure that guidelines for vehicle livery are followed in line with the Corporate Design Standards. Assist the Data Controller and Insurance department with downloading and investigation of CCTV footage of road traffic collisions. Arrange the inspection of all salvage vehicles by an independent Insurance Engineer to classify the appropriate salvage category in accordance with the ABI (Association of British Insurers) code of conduct. Arrange the disposal of total loss vehicles. Skills, Knowledge & Experience Skills Ability to motivate and enthuse others to achieve objectives, often to tight deadlines, and to influence and build effective working relationships with partners and stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally Ability to deliver a safe and compliant service that meets customer expectations Ability to effectively implement legal requirements, LU policies, procedures and operational rules. Ability to use Oracle and SAP; Local systems including JAAMA. Ability to carry out Incident investigations; report the findings and implement effective improvement plans. Highly self-motivated with ability to evaluate risks and establish effective contingency plans Knowledge A sound technical and mechanical understanding of both car and commercial vehicles Knowledge of relevant sections of the Road Act, Constructions and Use Regulations, Operations Licensing Regulations and Passenger and Goods Vehicles Regulations Experience within the Motor Industry ie. a recognised Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship is Beneficial Experience A sound technical and mechanical understanding of both car and commercial vehicles. (Essential) Experience of insurance assessing of vehicle accidents is vital due to the expenditure of repair costs involved.
