Job summaryIf you are an enthusiastic Registered nurse with experience and looking for a new challenge in an acute care environment the Neuroscience department at the QE Hospital Birmingham may be the place for you!As a Registered nurse you will have valuable knowledge and experience which would be an asset to the Neuroscience teamOur Neuroscience department is the tertiary centre for the midlands and cares for people with a wide range of complex needs i.e acquired/traumatic brain injuries, patients needing urgent surgery complex neurological conditions such as looking after patients with altered airways, EVDs, high dependency nursing and pre-post-operative management of patientsWe care for patients in their acute phase of treatment and recovery. Our patients often have complex physical, cognitive, and behavioural impairments.You will develop skills in acute care, rehabilitation and will be supporting patients and their families from new diagnosis to ongoing treatment and dischargeThe successful candidate will be provided with:Robust induction programmesClinical education team support from a Neuro specific education teamMultiple training packagesOpportunity to undertake the Neurosciences care module and gain academic credits towards BSc or MScAn individualised Development pathwaySupport from other learning disability nurses within neurosciencesGaining new acute surgical and medical experienceRotations considered around the neuro wards to gain Neurology and Neurosurgical experienceMain duties of the job* Carry out clinical practice in designated clinical areas ensuring high quality evidence-based practice* Use up to date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, communicate findings, influence changes, and promote health and best practice* Act as an advocate for patients to ensure a patient focused approach to the delivery of care is met* Deliver high quality clinical care and a positive patient experience, regardless of different backgrounds* Promote a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors by ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, health care associated infection prevention, governance including risk management and incident reporting and act without delay in reporting and escalating any concerns* Recognise and act in a timely manner to assess the health and wellbeing of patients and develop individual care plans* Ensure accurate, legible and timely documentation relating to all aspects of patients care and treatment both paper based and electronically and in accordance with Trust/ NMC standards* Undertake a range of physical observations appropriate to the individuals scope of practice using a range of equipment, recording, reporting and escalating findings and concerns* Be accountable for the correct administration and custody of medicines as per the Trust Policy including the safe administration of medicines, controlled drugs, intravenous drugs, transfusion of blood and blood products as required by the clinical areaAbout usWe are recognised as one of the leading NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK.
