The award-winning University of Dundee Careers Service aims to help all students and graduates realise and achieve their future goals through provision of careers education, advice and guidance and a wide range of opportunities for development of professional skills. Research within the Careers Service has indicated that students who engage in extra-curricular activity report the highest levels of career readiness and it is known that graduate employers strongly value the skills gained through extra-curricular activity. We are delighted to be recruiting for a Student Development Officer. The Student Development Officer is an exciting role working with students to encourage them to develop employability skills through a range of new and existing initiatives. The postholder will work with colleagues to develop strategies to encourage engagement with an online Skills Framework tool, Online Skills Learning Pathways and other skills enhancing initiatives and will lead on the development of these resources. The Dundee Plus Skills Award is available to all students as the vehicle by which the University recognises skills gained through extra-curricular activities. Students registered for the award are supported to assess their skill levels, set and monitor their progress against developmental goals, reflect on the skills gained through a diverse range of activities and learn how to articulate these to graduate employers. Working with existing programmes and digital tools this post holder will be responsible for working with the University and partners to grow and develop engagement in learning activities that support the articulation of graduate skills and drive student engagement in extra-curricular activity. Your priorities will include: Ensuring that the importance of developing employability skills is recognised across our community. You will deliver initiatives directly to colleagues and students to ensure they appreciate the importance of articulating graduate level skills using effective evidence. Leading on developing and growing the Dundee Plus Skills Award, The Skills Framework, Online Skills Learning Pathways and other experiences, including mentoring schemes with a focus on quality, consistency and sustainability Developing learning resources for use on Virtual Learning Environments for Dundee Plus, the Skills Framework and online pathways (e.g. how to use videos/resources, additional instructional resources). Developing effective processes for collecting and sharing examples of good practice and success stories, and work with University colleagues and partners to ensure that maximum benefit is derived from these - via a range of outlets including VLE, Social Media, Web, presentations etc Who we're looking for: An individual with an in-depth and demonstratable understanding of student and graduate employability with particular reference to skills development and articulation. A team member with significant expertise in, and experience of, building relationships and communicating independently with a range of organisations and individuals is essential. An excellent communicator who will pro-actively engage with students at all levels to encourage participation in the Dundee Plus award and other skills development activities through presentations, social media and promotion at events such as Careers Fairs, Welcome Week and other events. A new colleague with significant experience of creating rapport with students and facilitating their learning and development. An individual with experience of developing learning assets - synchronous (in person and virtual) and asynchronous.
