As a Band 2 Track Maintenance Engineer (Data) you will develop a good understanding of Track engineering, with a particular focus on Track Data and increase your knowledge of wider industry theory and practice. Working in the Track Maintenance Engineering team, you will be involved with a wide range of Track disciplines, including track quality, wheel rail interface, rail defect management, noise & vibration, mechanised maintenance, and technical support. Day-to-day, your main focus will be on the management, processing, and analysis of data in an engineering environment, and developing data driven technical solutions for Track issues. You will work alongside experienced Track Engineers and Data Scientists, contributing to improving the management and maintenance of the Track infrastructure across the network and in different modes. You will have grounding or experience in the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering (with an emphasis on Data Analysis and Programming), and its practical application to industry. This role will involve combining engineering knowledge with data analytics skills to solve problems. Experience with both Excel and programming languages such as Python are desirable. Understanding of SQL is desirable. This position will give you flexibility to work with a variety of data analytics tools, and both experience in and a desire to grow skills in a range of data practices is strongly desired. Successful applicants will have their knowledge and experience enhanced within the discipline of Track Engineering. You will build a good understanding of how the track operates within a system and grow in your understanding of complex issues, and how to communicate to a wide range of stakeholders across the TfL organisation. You will be expected to continue to develop your expertise within the team and share your knowledge with other engineers to aid their development and support the team.
