We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) to join our multidisciplinary Respiratory, Surgery & Critical Care Therapy Team at Barnet Hospital - part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. This Team Lead post is full time, working 37.5 hours per week, but flexible working may be considered.
SLTs in this team provide an integrated therapy service together with Physiotherapy, Dietetic and Occupational Therapy colleagues in the following areas:
• Critical Care
• Surgery Acute
• Respiratory Care (including Enhanced Care Unit)
The post holder will also work closely with SLTs based in other specialty areas at Barnet Hospital.
The successful applicant will provide expert assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults in the above areas with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties, and have opportunities to further develop this highly specialist SLT service. They will have experience in critical care and complex tracheostomy weaning. They will take a lead role within the hospital Tracheostomy Ward Round and MDT training and education. They will have excellent leadership skills, supporting more junior members of staff and deputising for the clinical lead(s) when required. They will provide and demonstrate specialist skills in instrumental assessment techniques (e.g. FEES, Videofluoroscopy,). They will also take an active role in the SLT bank holiday rota.
If successful, you will be joining a supportive team of senior SLT’s working within specialty groups that include Neurology, Head and Neck Cancer, Voice / General medicine /Health Services for the Elderly who provide a service across our Barnet and Chase Farm sites. We are part of a larger team of SLT’s across the Trust sites. You will be well supported with opportunities for peer support and access to joint working with clinical leads. The Speech and Language Therapy team run both videofluoroscopy and FEES instrumental assessment clinics.
You will also be joining an established speciality Therapy Team of physiotherapists, Dietitians, SLTs, Occupational Therapists and Therapy Support Workers supported by a Clinical Lead Therapist and a Professional Lead SLT. You will have the opportunity to work with the Respiratory, ENT and Palliative Care Nurse Specialists, as well as the ‘Patient At Risk and Resuscitation Team’.
