Job summaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 4 Nursery Nurse to join the bank team at East London Foundation Trust.Applicants for this position will need to be a nursery nurse with the appropriate training, experience of working with babies and who are able to demonstrate interest in Perinatal Mental Health.Main area for Nursery Nurses undertaking bank will be within Perinatal Mental Health in particular shifts on the Mother & Baby Unit. This is a unique role for nursery nurses to work within an inpatient mental health ward, supporting babies and their mothers who are experiencing mental health difficulties.The East London Mother and Baby unit is a 12 bedded unit based within the City & Hackney Centre for Mental Health.This family-centred specialist Mother and Baby Unit cares for people who experience severe mental health difficulties during the later stages of pregnancy and following the birth. The mothers are either experiencing mental health problems ante-natally or up to one year post-natally and require direct support in ensuring care of the infant is upheld whilst supporting the mother through their own recovery.Main duties of the jobAssess, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care of babies/infants on the unit.Take an active part in team discussion and decisions relating to the mother and babydyad in respect of the care and treatment and ensure these are carried out or reviewed as required.To ensure that assessments and care plans reflect the psychological, emotional, physical healthcare of the infants on the unit.To provide a nursery nursing perspectiveFollow procedure on handling patient money and valuables.Supervise and maintain the safe custody, control and administration of drugs andtake appropriate action/measures to provide safe administration as prescribed tobaby/infants.Use a range of therapeutic techniques when managing patients with challenging andunpredictable needs including when this leads to aggressive incidents.Assist and/or supervise mothers with bathing, dressing, and feeding, changing and other aspects of baby care.Escort babies, with or without mothers, to other departments in the hospital and to other hospitals, if required.About usOur mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve.
