Job summaryAn opportunity has arisen for a temporary (12 month) Band 7 Clinical Psychologist post working in the Neuro-oncology team within the Paediatric Psychology Service at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Trust. The post is available on a 1.0 WTE basis. This post would be ideal for clinicians considering a possible clinical-research career, and includes two main strands of work.The post holder will be responsible for leading (with supervision) a one year project exploring the provision of neuropsychological assessment to children with brain tumour across the UK. The role will include liaison with psychology staff at all UK primary treatment centres for brain tumour. An existing group of clinical psychology and neuropsychology colleagues working into UK centres are available to support the post holder with this project.The post holder will also be responsible for providing neuropsychological assessment and psychological therapies to children with brain tumour and their families in our region. The post holder will liaise with the paediatric neuro-oncology Special Interest Group (SIG) to generate suggestions for new ways of funding and providing assessment, and will compile this into a comprehensive report. The post holder will be supported to show a high degree of autonomy in this aspect of the role.The post holder will also be responsible for providing neuropsychological assessment and psychological therapies to children with brain tumour and their families in our region. The role involves working in an environment in which families can experience high levels of distress.
