Job summaryThis is a new post to deliver specialist cardiac imaging, obstetric cardiology and community heart failure as well as general cardiology services to the Royal Free, London NHS Foundation Trust. The post is based predominantly at the Royal Free and Finchley Memorial Hospital (FMH) sites.Main duties of the jobThe job plan includes the following sessions:Specialist cardiac imaging (CTCA/nuclear)Out-patient clinicsWard rounds.Joint obstetric-cardiology clinics and in-patient review serviceCommunity heart failure clinics at FMHLocal teaching and MDT meetingsAbout usThe Royal Free Heart Centre provides a comprehensive range of general and specialist cardiology services, serving both a secondary and tertiary role for patients in the North Central London sector. The cardiology unit comprises a seven-bedded Coronary Care Unit and a designated cardiology ward (twenty beds) plus any inpatients on other wards being looked after by the consultants concerned.There is a dedicated diagnostic departmentproviding a full range of non-invasive investigations, two new cardiac catheter laboratories and a day case coronary interventional unit (10 beds). The department receives elective and non-elective referrals from the locality and from district general hospitals in the North Central Sector. On 1st July 2014 the Royal free acquired Barnet & Chase Farm hospitals. The department is now fully integrated across the sites with cross site working.Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesWe run an extremely dynamic echocardiography department providing 13,000 diagnostic echocardiograms across all three sites with both elective and in-patient services. Routine trans-esophageal echocardiograms are carried out at RFH site and ad hoc service for inpatients at Barnet. Exercise and dobutamine stress echocardiography is carried out across RFH and Barnet. We undertake the full range of echocardiography including tissue Doppler, contrast echocardiography and 3-D TOE. In 2021 there was a £1 million upgrade of all the echo machines. There is onsite cardiac MRI at the RFH in a purpose build scanning centre providing state of the art perfusion mapping and innovative CMR-guided right heart catheterization.
