Job summaryThe post is for the appointment of a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with a special interest in Head and Neck cancer, skin cancer and General OMFS. This is an opportunity to join a committed and motivated team of OMFS consultant surgeons working across Northampton General Hospital (NGH) and Kettering General Hospital (KGH). We also work closely with colleagues in Leicester to provide seamless care for patients across the region. The post will be primarily based at NGH with some outreach clinical sessions at KGH.Interview Date - TBCMain duties of the jobThe successful appointee will be expected to undertake head and neck cancer surgery, including microvascular reconstructive surgery for patients from across the county and surrounding areas. The maxillofacial head and neck team also receive referrals from Buckinghamshire and work closely with Leicester to treat their head and neck cancer patients in Northampton and Leicester. The post holder will be part of the Head and Neck Oncology MDT.Northampton General Hospital is a core member of the East Midlands Head and Neck Cancer Network, the post holder will join this forum to explore how we can improve services and support across the region.The Department has a Cone-Beam CT, six surgeries, specialist nurse in wound care, and an OMFS laboratory offering a full range of reconstructive and planning facilities to include 3-D imagery software and 3-D printing.About usNorthampton General Hospital is one of the largest employers in the area and we are on an exciting journey. To fully support the delivery and development of the Maxillofacial Service.2. To share responsibility for the service with the other Consultants, Head and neck surgeon supported by the general maxillofacial surgeons.3. To ensure full submission of data to the Head and neck database, in line with national recommendations.4. To participate with the other Consultant Surgeons in the management of the Department of Maxillofacial.5. To demonstrate a firm commitment to clinical governance including participation in effective clinical audit and continuing medical education.6. To contribute to management within the Trust through the Directorate.7. To participate in all teaching programmes for medical staff, medical students and other hospital employees as required.Person SpecificationEducation, Training & QualificationsEssentialEducation, Training & Qualifications Medical degree FRCS or equivalent. Full GMC registration. Part of this period may be in a post equivalent with responsibility and training potential.Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in OMFSAbility to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems relating to OMFS and particularly opinion on relevant head and neck oncology cases.Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of OMFS patientsAbility to advise and run a smooth, efficient OMFS service for both in-patients and outpatientsAbility to organise and manage outpatient priorities and treatment.Experience of providing general on-call in OMFSProven involvement in clinical audit Proven track record of ophthalmology research with evidence of publicationsExperience of audit managementAbility and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targetsDesirableTIG or equivalent fellowship in Head & NeckCommitment to clinical risk management and clinical governanceSkillsEssentialGood written and verbal communication skills.
