The School of Humanities, Social Sciences & Law is a dynamic, modern and integrated school that brings together a range of disciplines from across the social sciences, humanities and related professional programmes. The School comprises five Divisions: Dundee Law School; Education & Society; Energy, Environment & Society; Humanities; and Psychology. The School is one of the largest of the eight Schools in the University, comprising approximately 300 academic and professional services staff. It delivers education provision to approximately 5500 students which is 30% of the overall student population. A Support Specialist experienced in the physical geography and environmental science field and allied data processing techniques is required to support teaching and research in the Division of Energy, Environment & Society. The successful candidate will be expected to provide technical expertise, advice and training to academic staff and students across the division. The role holder will work closely with Programme Team (Prog Leads for Geography & Environmental Science) in a number of areas of programme delivery in all years of the programme. As a key member of the team the post holder will work with academic staff to ensure the efficient delivery of technical services across the division, that these services are delivered to the highest standard when and where they are needed, that technical skills are kept up-to-date and that the highest health and safety standards are maintained at all times. Your priorities will include: Responsibility for overseeing and delivering a full range of technical services within the Geography and Environmental Science subject area. Act as the School H&S Advisor providing advice to staff and students regarding all H&S matters. Attendance on field trips (day and residential) for research and teaching purposes; preparation, management of equipment, logistical support, First Aid cover, driving vehicles. Lead and support staff and students in the use of all field equipment i.e. geophysical kit (Leica DGPS, ERT), hydrological equipment, water chemistry, aerial drones etc for teaching and research purposes. Who we're looking for: Knowledge of latest developments and techniques in the field. Fieldwork experience in Physical Geography techniques or a closely related subject A high level of professional expertise, having significant training and relevant experience. As well as a proven ability in a specialism, you will have the ability to engage with new areas and learn new skills quickly.
