Job Description
The Botanic Garden and Grounds staff are responsible for the maintenance of the green and blue spaces.
Purpose of Role
We are currently looking to recruit a Gardener/Grounds Technician to join our growing team of gardeners and green keepers. The successful applicant will be involved in the daily maintenance of our Campus and Riverside Sports facilities. This is a permanent full-time post with weekend work on a rota basis. We are looking for a motivated individual who ideally has experience in large scale amenity gardens and or turf management. You will liaise with the Team Leader for Gardens and Grounds to help maintain our sites to a high standard that is beautiful and safe for all our staff and students to support their wellbeing.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Routine maintenance of grass and artificial turf pitches such as:
Mowing, aerating, feeding, seeding.
Line marking and setting up playing surfaces.
Use of tractor mounted brushes and collectors for maintenance of artificial pitches.
Maintenance of grounds:
General garden maintenance such as planting, pruning, mowing, leaf blowing, mulching, weeding.
Winter gritting of campus and other sites to maintain staff and student safety.
Routine driving and operation of tractors and other grounds maintenance machinery.
Litter picking.
Application of pesticides and herbicides.
Routine maintenance of machinery and equipment, to include:
Greasing and lubricating of machines.
Basic Mechanic work
Person Specification
Minimum of SQA level 2 Horticulture, greens keeping or a related course.
Experience of grounds maintenance and or sports turf.
Daily and annual tool and machinery maintenance.
37.5hrs per week.
34 days annual leave plus additional long service days.
