Job summaryThe post is one of a multi-disciplined team of technicians within the Electronic and Bio-Medical Engineering department concerned with the provision of services that are aimed at ensuring that medical equipment operates effectively and safely with the minimum of downtime. To calibrate and maintain medical equipment and devices for use in patient care.The post holder provides support to various electrical, electronic, mechanical and oxygen therapy equipment which includes the planned preventative maintenance, repair, calibration and acceptance testing of a wide range of medical equipment, including life support, patient monitoring, patient therapy, diagnostic, ventilatory and anaesthetic equipment which at times will be 'patient connected'The post holder liaises with Consultant Medical and Nursing ward staff, associated Healthcare Professionals and technical staff to identify faults and repair equipment, including working in clinical areas with intermittent patient contact.Main duties of the jobUse appropriate test equipment and to take responsibility for its use and safety, majority of which is highly specialised, expensive and complex.Reference the correct protocol for type and range of equipment.Complete planned preventative maintenance to specified schedule.To attend all wards/departments within the Trust, Primary Care Trusts and other organisations on a regular basis to perform equipment maintenance as per planned preventative maintenance schedule and when necessary, to carry out non-schedule repairs. This may involve frequent movement of heavy items of medical equipment.Clarify all issues affecting the required maintenance and their impact on the delivery of clinical services.To co-operate in the implementation of departmental policies and procedures as required and to propose changes to procedures that may impact on other professions.To act on relevant safety notices received from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), engineering updates and modifications with the appropriate course of action and liaise with other healthcare professionals to ensure their timely execution.To assist with the investigation of adverse incidents relating to medical devices and reporting potential incidents when identified.About usAll new colleagues can expect to receive a warm and friendly Wirral welcome from the very first time they make contact with us. Due care and diligence must be exercised when working on such equipment. This will also apply to other potentially harmful equipment used in patient treatment such as lasers, defibrillators, surgical diathermy and radio frequency therapy equipment.To commission, evaluate, repair, maintain, overhaul and calibrate a wide range of medical equipment for clinical use.To organise daily work schedules and to work unsupervised.To respond to calls from end users for assistance on equipment deemed to be of a higher priority.
