Job summaryWe are looking for an individual with excellent organisational skills, a methodical approach and ability to pay close attention to detail. Experience in handling databases and basic ledger work is expected as is an understanding of patient confidentiality. We would like someone who is confident and comfortable working within a multidisciplinary team. Although a non clinical role, the individual will often speak to patient or relatives on the telephone and so an empathetic nature is essential. Previous NHS experience is not necessary but is desirable.Main duties of the jobThe primary role is to support the Optometry and Orthoptic teams in delivering comprehensive and professional administration support. The role includes ordering and receiving goods, maintaining stock levels and maintaining associated databases for spectacle vouchers, low vision aids and specialist contact lenses, dealing with telephone queries and cascading messages to the appropriate team member, recording staff annual leave and sickness and undertake any appropriate duties as required by the professional lead for service improvement within Optometry and Orthoptics.About usWe are a friendly and supportive team consisting of Optometrists, Orthoptists, technicians and administrators. We work in outpatients clinics in both Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal Hospitals as well as community hospitals and special schools across Gloucestershire.Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be working alongside a part time administrator and optometry clinic co-ordinator. It is office based and located predominantly in the main ophthalmology outpatient department at Cheltenham General Hospital. It is a permanent role of 37.5 hours per week (1.0WTE) and there is some scope to be flexible to suit the applicant, for example 4 long days and a half day.
