Job summaryThis is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual with clinical experience in Pre-operative assessment to join an established dynamic nursing team . The prospective post holder will be a registered nurse.The main objective of the unit is to assess and optimise patients for elective surgery. Therefore the prospective post holder will require a broad knowledge of surgery. With at least 2 years' experience as a band 5 staff nurse. Pre-operative assessment experience and skills are desirable, you will need to have a minimum of 1 years' experience working within a surgical environment. You will be reliable, innovative, and flexible with good interpersonal/communication skills.The vacancy is 37.5 hours per week. The Pre-op clinic opens from 8:00am to 4:00pm 5 days a week. The service is based within out-patients at North Manchester General Hospital.Main duties of the jobYou will be expected to undertake clinical observations such as blood pressure, pulse, BMI and peak flow recording as well as clinical examinations such as MRSA screening, CPE screening, 12 lead ECG recording and venepuncture. The prospective post holder will be required to provide a comprehensive nursing and medical assessment, ensuring all necessary results and reviews are collated prior to admissionYou will assist in the development of an environment that supports the value of pre-operative assessment by working collaboratively with surgeons, Anaesthetist, and the MDT, therefore the candidate will need to have a high level of clinical judgement and decision making skills and be able to carry out clinical duties in accordance with national, Trust and local standards and maintain a patient focused approach.
