Are you an experienced contracts Lawyer looking to expand your skills, progress your career and step into a leadership role? Join the new Legal Team at West Northants Council, one of the newest and the fourth biggest Unitary Council in England.
As Principal Contracts Lawyer you will sit within our Corporate legal team, supporting the Head of Legal (Corporate) in the management of the team and working collaboratively with our Procurement Team and client officers in the work they undertake.

What will you be doing?
You will be our technical specialist in the contracts and procurement space with duties including:
Being the lead lawyer on all contractual matters for goods, services and major projects
Engage in stakeholder relationship management including with partner law firms
Leading a team of senior lawyers, lawyers and legal assistants, allocating caseloads, ensuring provision of high-quality legal advice from colleagues, and delivering supportive leadership
Managing a caseload of contracts and procurement matters from a wide range of client departments
Deputising for the Head of Legal (Corporate) where required
Advising the Council on a wide range of contractual matters, delivering training where necessary
Advising in relation to grant funding agreements and subsidy control
Advising on policy, strategy and procedure relating to contract related issues
About you
Whilst experience of advising on contracts law is essential, local government experience is not. What’s more important is a passion for delivering an excellent legal service, a desire to help shape and deliver an exemplar local authority legal service and a drive to progress and achieve your own ambition.
