As a Principal Practitioner Psychologist, your goal is to offer psychological assessments and bespoke interventions to parents who's children are subject to Care Proceedings.You will be joining a friendly, supportive psychology team within a multi-agency team, dedicated to providing a high-quality service which complements the work done by Children Services in liaison/partnership with other key agencies. They will be responsible for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the specified service.To work autonomously within professional guidelines. To supervise and support the psychological assessment and practice provided by other psychologists, psychological therapists and other clinical members of the service who provide psychologically based care and treatment and to provide clinical and professional leadership to appropriate clinical staff.To manage a complex caseload.To plan, organise and contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the team's operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit, and to advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressingAbout usSWIFT Specialist Family Service is an innovative and exciting service provided by East Sussex County Council Children's Services and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in partnership. The service provides assessments and interventions to families within East Sussex child protection, safeguarding and care proceedings where the parent / parents' own difficulties: substance misuse, mental health, sexual risk, learning difficulties, domestic violence are impacting on their ability to parent. This post is part of a further service development offering assessments and interventions to adults who presents with complex needs including learning needs, neuro developmental needs and form of trauma often related to their own experiences as children and adults. This post is integrated into the SWIFT Adult Psychology Team contributing to the current Mental Health service offered to high risk families by SWIFT.Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesThis varied and challenging role will involve working with families to enhance outcomes for children subject to Child Protection Plans and Pre-Proceedings through interventions with the adults thinking and taking into considering the competing needs between the children and the adults. As an experienced Practitioner Psychologist in the field of Adult and Family Mental Health, you will be confident in assessing and managing risk and will be able to communicate your professional opinion both verbally and in writing. The role will also involve provide consultation to social workers to assist them in case management, and sharing your skills within the team.There will be opportunities to contribute to the teams development, and an expectation that you keep abreast of current research and theory in your field. Regular practice development opportunities are provided for case discussion and action learning.Person SpecificationQualificationsEssentialPost-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or outside the UK] as approved by the HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HCPC)Knowledge & ExperienceEssentialSignificant assessed experience of working as a qualified psychologist.Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology.Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group.Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups.Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.High level of knowledge and skills in neuropsychology and evidence of further practice and/or training since qualification.Experience of assessing and treating clients across the full range of care settings.Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts.Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
