The Through Care Service works with looked after children and care leavers. The service is co-located with carers advisors, a housing liaison officer and a UASC liaison officer. Through Care is an innovative and dynamic service involved in national pilots of Lifelong Links, Leaving Well and New Belongings and were shortlisted for the 2019 social workers of the year awards. Coventry is part of the National Leaving Care Benchmarking Forum.

What is the job role?
In Coventry, we are investing in practice and new posts have been funded to ensure we keep caseloads of social workers at a level that is manageable, where work-life balance can be really achieved, and where we work together to deliver good outcomes for children and families.
Due to the investment, we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic social worker to work within the Through Care service. This service works with looked-after children and care leavers from 12-25.
As a worker, you have the opportunity to build long-term relationships with children and young people and help them reach their full potential. You will be expected to be a team player and the ability to engage and communicate with young people is essential.
You should have a sound knowledge of the legislation and regulations surrounding looked-after children and care leavers, with the ability to apply this to your practice.
The work includes Court Work as we transfer children into the service at the initial hearing to ensure social workers who will be working with children and young people long-term are involved with care planning at this stage. The roles also involve managing adolescent risk and a good understanding of contextual safeguarding is desirable.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate will have experience of:
Completing comprehensive assessments
Preparing Care/ Pathway Plans
Court work
Undertaking statutory LAC reviews and visits
Attending multi-agency meetings
Managing adolescent risk
Supervising, supporting and monitoring young people who are moving into independent living.
