Job summaryWe are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Theatre Booking Co-ordinator to manage the administration of the Ophthalmology Surgery booking service at Peterborough City Hospital, in conjunction with managing the Ophthalmology Surgical booking teams.The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a flexible, motivated approach to their work as well as preferably having previous experience as a Medical Secretary or Theatre Booker within the NHS.Sound knowledge of 18 weeks RTT is essential for this post. Being confident on the telephone and taking messages and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office is also required along with good communication skills. Duties for the role include direct support to Medical Staff and Nurse Specialists, dealing with enquiries from internal and external agencies and liaising with other departments within the Trust.The role is rewarding and challenging, within a service division, which is continually changing and reassessing its administration systems in line with an ever-modernising NHS service, the applicant must be adaptable to change.Main duties of the jobManaging the provision of an efficient booking team involves coordinating the Ophthalmology Surgical Booking for both Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital. This role ensures that booking standards are consistently met, maintaining a smooth and effective process for scheduling surgeries.An important aspect of this management role is the line management of junior team members. This includes overseeing their professional development, managing MPAs, handling sickness and annual leave, and ensuring that tasks are appropriately delegated. By doing so, the team operates efficiently and maintains high standards of service.Collaboration is key in this position, requiring close work with consultants, junior doctors, and nursing staff. This teamwork is crucial to meeting surgery targets and ensuring that all patients, especially those who have been waiting the longest, are seen in a timely manner.Additionally, the role involves ensuring that urgent surgeries are promptly booked and that elective prioritization targets are met.
