Working for the Environment Agency means protecting and improving the environment and tackling issues of National Importance. Such broad scope of work calls for diverse, multi-skilled teams. Ensuring we have skilled, knowledgeable fisheries teams is vital for us to protect and improve the environment. To do this we need to strengthen technical resilience, and this has been identified as the number 1 priority by leadership teams. This post will provide support across the whole organisation and will drive improvements in operational delivery, recruitment and retention of existing staff and will support the transfer of their knowledge and skills at national and area level. You will join the National Fisheries Service where you will support our technical experts to deliver a world class service to the wider business and to our external stakeholders. Your main focus will be helping us to build fisheries skills and knowledge across the Environment Agency by: • Reviewing technical role specifications and aligning them to work requirements. • Providing overarching support for fisheries technical staff training. • Developing tools to enable staff to track their development and identify training needs. • Development and provision of a skills exchange across fisheries. • Supporting future development and growth of our fisheries community through digital, online and face to face communications. • Reviewing and supporting the delivery of a technical capability framework. • Providing secretariat support to key expert panels who provide statutory support for Salmon and Freshwater Fish Act and the Eel Regulations. • Supporting the maintenance and provision of databases critical to undertaking fisheries work. • Supporting building resilience in key technical areas such as hydroacoustics and Net Limitation Orders. • There will be opportunities to develop yourself in key areas aligned to your interests. The team Your post will be in the National Fisheries Service (NFS) within National Monitoring. You will work closely with the whole team and with colleagues in the wider organisation including Areas, Environment and Business, Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) and Chief Scientist Group. The team provides a technical advice service supporting fisheries, ecological and protection and improvement. We provide information about impacts in aquatic environments and evidence to support mitigation and improvements.
