Job summaryThe PNI Unit provides a highly respected elective service which is fed by referrals from all over the UK, from the Military Services and from over-seas. The Unit, the largest of its kind in the UK, provides a world-class and comprehensive emergency service for acute nerve injury, Brachial plexus trauma, iatropathic nerve injuries and in tumours of peripheral nerves and has the largest world experience in this field. It has acquired the largest UK experience in the treatment of surgical disorders of peripheral nerves and in the treatment of the Obstetric brachial plexus palsy.This service is a Consultant led service receiving acute and non-acute referrals, with a large proportion coming from other NHS Trusts.The successful applicant will take a full part in dealing with the case-load of the PNI Unit.Main duties of the jobJobs with 10 Programmed Activities will be offered as 8.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 1.5 (SPA). There will be an initial job plan review meeting with the Clinical Director within the first 6 months of employment. They will be expected to take an active and engaged role in departmental and academic responsibilities as allocated by agreement across the department, including cover for colleagues annual leave and other authorised absences as appropriate.The successful applicant will engage fully and proactively in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit.The postholder will be expected to engage in continuing professional development.A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and their Clinical Director on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer prior to the commencement date of the appointment.The job plan shall be reviewed annually.
