Job summaryBand 8b Consultant Radiographer/Band 8a Advanced Practitioner Radiographer/ Band 7 Trainee Advanced Practitioner Radiographer.We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated Consultant Radiographer to join the Breast Imaging team in Gloucestershire. As a member of our team, you will help deliver highly skilled patient focused care within the Breast Imaging Service. Part of the wider breast service, we operate from Thirlestaine Breast Centre, Cheltenham. We provide the breast screening service for the population of Gloucestershire. The target population is currently 110,000 women aged 50-70 years, but it is expected to increase by up 10-15% with demographic changes over the next decade.We are a Full Field Digital Screening Unit with 4 FFDM machines all with tomosynthesis capability, 1 with contrast enhanced mammography and 3 with stereotactic capability. There are 4 ultrasound units. 2 FFDM mobile units provide screening for clients at other sites in Gloucestershire. The co-location of the imaging and surgical clinics lends itself to an excellent collaborative approach to both elements of the breast service. There are one stop new patient clinics occurring every day during the working week. We see approximately 5000 new cases per year; there are an additional 10000 surveillance mammograms undertaken annually.Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be a clinical expert in the field of breast imaging and will fulfil the 4 pillars of Consultant Level practice:Expert clinical practiceStrategic and enabling leadershipLearning, developing and improving across the systemResearch and innovationIn addition consultancy forms the foundations for putting expertise in place across systems of health and social care across the above domains demonstrating the 5th pillar.This is a senior clinical post, and the postholder will work autonomously in the department adhering to Trust protocols and policies, NBSS and NICE guidelines, taking a lead role as part of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will also be involved with, and where appropriate, collaborate in national and international research contributing to relevant networks and forums, with the aim of supporting excellence within the specialist field.The postholder will be a member of the breast imaging team and will have expert knowledge and experience in all areas of advanced practice, providing leadership, facilitation of education support and advice all staff within and external to breast imaging for Gloucestershire Breast Screening service and symptomatic breast service. There is an expectation that a minimum of 50% of the post holder's portfolio will be spent in direct autonomous clinical practice and providing leadership to clinicians within this clinical area.About usIf the applicant has an MSc in Breast Imaging but has no experience of working at Consultant Practitioner level but does have COR accreditation as an Advanced Practitioner, a Band 8a Advanced Practitioner post will be considered. Support will be given for the candidate to achieve accreditation at Consultant Practitioner level. Once the candidate is accredited and has the appropriate experience of working at this level, transition to Band 8b would be supported.If the applicant does not have an MSc in Breast Imaging but has a post graduate qualification (Level 7) in Mammographic Image interpretation and either a post graduate qualification (Level 7) in Breast Ultrasound or Interventional Breast Procedures and is willing to undertake further training to obtain an MSc in Breast Imaging and COR accreditation as an Advanced Practitioner, then a Band 7 Trainee Advanced Practitioner post will be considered with transition to Band 8a once the MSc and accreditation is obtained.Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the largest employer in the county and with over 8,000 staff, we are one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK.
