Job Description Children, Education and Justice Services Head Teacher Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce Salary: £74,190 Hours: 35 per week Applicants need to be fluent in Gaelic. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced education practitioner to progress their career and lead a senior leadership team within a Gaelic medium primary and nursery school in city centre of Edinburgh where children learn and are educated through Scottish Gaelic. Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce offers primary education and nursery provision for children in the City of Edinburgh and the Lothians. The school opened in August 2013. Most learners start at Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce with little or no Gaelic and therefore a key task from nursery onwards is to develop Gaelic language competence, using the immersion approach. The school has 16 classes and is co-educational and non-denominational for pupils aged 5 to 12. The Head Teacher also has responsibility for nursery, which provides places for 40 children aged between 3-5 years. The Taobh na Pairce community thrives on being a learning environment with Gaelic language and culture at its heart, where everyone works together, promoting the school’s values and enabling all learners to achieve. The number of Gaelic speakers in the staff team continues to grow, further embedding the strategy of supporting staff to take forward their professional learning in Gaelic language. Please note, for candidates that are invited for Short Leet there will be a virtual assessment centre consisting of three written tasks. The Standard for Headship is now an essential requirement for this post. If the successful candidate does not meet this requirement the post may be offered on a temporary basis for a maximum period of 30 months if the panel is satisfied that, on an individual basis, there is a likelihood that the Into Headship qualification will be achieved within this timescale. A permanent contract will be offered only when the course is successfully completed. If it becomes clear that this essential qualification will not be achieved within 30 months then the contract will be ended with appropriate notice and the temporary Head Teacher will then revert to a DHT1 post available across the city. Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory. We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation. As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work. Requirements To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
