Job summaryWe are looking for well-motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Higher Level Medical Laboratory Assistant.The post is permanent and full timeThe successful candidate will work supporting Scientific Staff in the preparation and analysis of samples in the Medical Biochemistry and Immunology Department.The department offers one of the largest Clinical Chemistry and Immunology repertoires in the UK, and hosts the Wales Newborn Blood spot Screening Service, and Antenatal Screening Services.The department actively encourages participation in CPD to develop skills that will assist you in the pursuit of your career ambitions and generally is willing to support appropriate study arrangements/leave including participation in HCPC Certificate of Competence tutorials.Main duties of the jobBlood Sciences Specimen Reception at Cardiff and Vale UHB is looking for enthusiastic and motivated individual who shares the organisation's core values and beliefs to join the team. The successful candidate will be required to work on either of the UHB sites, University Hospital Llandough or University Hospital of Wales.Specimen Reception is a busy laboratory whose primary function is to support the Medical Biochemistry and Immunology/Haematology analytical laboratory services. The laboratory receives a range of specimens for a wide variety of clinical investigations. The successful candidate will be involved in the receipt and checking of specimens, entry of patient and sample details into the laboratory information system, pre-analytical sample preparation and answering general telephone inquiries, as well as assisting the Specimen Reception Supervisors in monitoring and directing the work flow and reviewing documentation.The laboratory provides a 24 hour 365 day service and is a UKAS ISO 15189:2012 accredited laboratory. Once trained the successful applicants will be expected to participate in the 24/7 shift pattern.Working with Medical Laboratory Assistants, the successful candidate will play an essential role in the delivery of the laboratory service.The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.About usCardiff and Vale University Health Boardis one of the largest Integrated Health Boards in the UK, employing over 15,000 staff, providing over 100 specialist services.
