Job summaryWe are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly, and hard-working General Practice Nurse to join our clinical team. You will work alongside our GPs, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and administrative staff to deliver the highest quality of care to our local population.Whilst experience working in a General Practice setting is desirable, the most important quality we look for in candidates is a willingness to get involved in our team and be a leader by delivering innovation through the care we provide.Main duties of the jobYour main duties will be general nursing duties such as (not exhaustive);wound carelong-term condition reviews e.g. asthma, COPD and diabetescervical screeningimmunisationsblood testshealth screeningECGsExperience or a willingness to train in diabetes is essential.In addition to this, you will be expected assist with areas of leadership, which may be through infection prevention and control (IPC) compliance, improving uptake of cancer screening and immunisations and developing of protocols to maximize QOF prevalence.About usWe are a thriving Family Practice delivering high quality health care across Canterbury since 1965, currently looking after approx. 16,700 patients across 2 sites with a varied patient populationOur GMS practice compromises 5 GP Partners, 9 excellent salaried GPs, highly skilled nursing/healthcare professional staff and an efficient administrative and reception team.We are a high achieving, well organised practice and use EMIS web. We foster a close knit and supportive working community and are looking to welcome a Nurse onto our team.Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesTo provide assessment, health promotion and treatment services which are relevant to patients and their families with emphasis on improving diet and exercise routines whilst actively discouraging smoking and alcohol abuse through health promotion clinics. Referral to GP and other agencies as practice policy dictates.Works as an effective and responsible team member.Responsible for areas of Chronic Disease Management i.e. Asthma, Diabetes, COPD. Assess risk factors leading to ill health and advise and assist in suitable interventions.Womens health including family planning and sexual health advice, including pill checks and advice about long acting contraceptionResponsibility for cervical cytology programme, ensuring all women who are eligible for cervical smear are offered the opportunity to have the procedure performed, or given the opportunity to discuss/counsel anxieties or queries regarding any aspect of the subject.To develop individual programmes of care when assessing and managing the needs of patients.To be responsible for wound care including Doppler studies and wound assessment.Responsible for administering childhood immunisations and advising parents on the childhood immunisation programmeTo advise patients on travel health and vaccinations / advice requiredEnsure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs is undertaken. Where appropriate, oversee the monitoring, stock control and documentation of drug usage.To work according to protocols and guidelines within the practice. Review and readjust protocols to meet needsTo understand the importance of ear care and undertake ear irrigation when appropriateProvide smoking Cessation services to patients as per Practice Protocol.Knowledge of Health and Safety ProceduresAdvanced planning and organisational skills.
