Job summaryLuton and Dunstable Interventional Radiology team are looking for Band 6 Nurses to care for patients undergoing IR procedures, working up to co-ordinating our small team during shifts (3/4 days a week- see post details)We are a small friendly team dedicated to excellent patient care and experience.Successful applicants will have excellent patient assessment and patient observation skills and be keen to develop into a team leader when enough experience is gainedApplicants must have extensive experience in an acute hospital setting, Experience of radiology or theatre Nursing is preferred but not essential as training can be providedThe post holder will work as part of a small team within a large department so excellent interpersonal skills are a mustMain duties of the jobAssess patients for interventional radiology procedures using pre assessment criteria, provide patients with information about heir procedureCare for patients undergoing procedures, actively supporting them, monitoring observations, administering medications, insert and remove cannula, monitor CBGCare for patients & monitor them post procedure, recovering them, transferring to recovery/wardsAssist with the preparation of sterile fields and specialist equipment, Scrub Nursing, circulating nurse during proceduresTo wear PPE (lead aprons) during fluoroscopy casesTo safely administer sedation after receiving sedation trainingTo liaise with Radiologists about procedures, make bookings, liaise with bed managers, specialist Nurses and wider team to facilitate smooth proceduresAct as a practice assessor for Nursing students, support students from the MDT, co-ordinate student placementsTo work independently to organise, co-ordinate and prioritise own daily workload, to act as Nurse in charge for shifts once experiencedAbout usBedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Travel between hospital sites may be required.Please review all documents attached to this advert to ensure you familiarize yourself with all requirements of the job.Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesAssist with the organisation, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for patients undergoing procedures within the Imaging department (e.g. liver biopsies, lung biopsies, and nephrostomies) this includes caring for terminally ill, disabled, elderly and confused patientsOversee the safety and comfort of patients before, during, and after procedures, Nurse led discharge of patients if stable.Recognise and act effectively in both medical and non-medical emergencies.To effectively co-ordinate IR Lists and staff breaks, make decisions to ensure safe patient care with support from lead Nurse, use problem solving skillsCommunicate effectively and sensitively verbally, face to face and by telephone with a wide range of clinical technical and administrative staff across the Trust, patients, relatives/Carers and visitors to the department. This will include patients whose first language may not be English.Assist the Radiologist in diagnostic procedures according to professional training and departmental protocolsTo arrange imaging appointments as required, liaising with wards, radiographers, theatres, staff and patients, dispensing any necessary preparation and instructionsAssist in the co-ordination of the reception, transfer or admission of patients in conjunction with medical and bed management staffAssist with arranging transfers of patient information to other hospital site within the trust to arrange procedures cross siteAct as scrub nurse, sedating/monitoring nurse and circulating Nurse (training will be provided)Practice and monitor the correct wearing of PPE (lead aprons) where necessaryPreparation of sterile trolleys including the correct labelling of drugs in syringes, assisting in the use of guide wires, catheters and interventional equipment whilst practicing the principles of asepsisParticipate in the assessment, planning and implementation of moderate sedation, administering sedative drugs and monitoring sedated patients (training will be provided)To frequently deal with unpleasant conditions within the clinical environment.
