National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Technology Engineer to join our team in the Midlands region. As a Senior Engineer you will provide technical expertise in the identification and evaluation of technology asset specific needs and early solutions, while assuring adherence to defined asset policies and standards. Please note that You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving license to be considered for this position and during employment. This position can be based in Birmingham or Nottingham, with a balance of remote and office-based work. What you’ll be leading on Undertaking the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria. Developing early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability and costs. Identifying, preparing briefs and managing delivery of survey works that support the improvement and/or renewal of assets. Assisting with developing the regions asset led forward programme and initial scheme development. Providing technical support to Project Managers by assisting with materials approvals, vetting of contractors’ compliance, inspection support on site, and reviewing health and safety files. Assisting with reviews of third-party designs for compliance to design and maintenance requirements. Undertaking feasibility studies, investigations, and technology research to provide innovative solutions. Contributing or leading the successful delivery of work packages/tasks as directed by senior colleagues in accordance with quality, budget and timescales. To be successful Possess a relevant tertiary qualification in engineering/science related subject or substantial experience in a related/closely related field. Understand Asset Management Principles and tools for decision making. Knowledge of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), National Highways Technology Assets, NRTS Infrastructure, loT, Telco. and IP technologies. Experience in highway infrastructure design and in relevant construction and delivery methods. Experience working with budgets including the creation of a budget for scheme development. Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges standards and their application on the highways network.
