Job Description
A rare opportunity at the Perse has arisen for a Teacher of Chemistry to start in September 2025. We are looking to appoint a high achieving scientist to join a popular, dynamic and successful department. The successful candidate will have a genuine enthusiasm for science and be well placed to generate and sustain a high degree of motivation in all pupils, who are mainly of a high ability. All pupils currently take three separate sciences to GCSE having completed preparatory separate science courses in years 7 and 8. Chemistry teaching takes place in a suite of well-resourced laboratories. Year 9-11 students study the Edexcel GCSE curriculum. Practical work plays a key role in chemistry throughout all year groups, and it is at the heart of student learning. Sixth Form students study for the Edexcel A level qualification. We presently have seven chemistry classes in the Lower and seven classes in the Upper Sixth Form, a total of 179 pupils. Public exam results in chemistry are outstanding. At GCSE level, in 2024, 64% of Year 11 pupils were awarded a Grade 9, and 81% achieved a Grade 8 or above. At A Level, 77% of Upper Sixth pupils were awarded an A or A*. In 2025, Perse pupils secured 8 gold, 29 silver and 29 bronze awards in the Olympiad, and in the 2024 C3L6 two Perse pupils achieved a roentgenium award, placing those students in the top 0.7% in the country. A high proportion of pupils study chemistry in the Sixth Form and a large number go on to read chemistry or a chemistry related degree such as Natural Sciences or Medicine at university, with a high proportion at Oxbridge. Public exam results regularly place The Perse in the top 20 schools nationally and in a typical year over 50 pupils will receive Oxbridge offers. The Perse enjoys a prestigious reputation and values a mixed approach to teaching and learning. We aim to respect tradition and innovation, industry and fun, and academic and personal growth. All teachers and pupils are required to demonstrate all-round excellence and contribute to the academic, pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school. At The Perse School, we value the well-being of all staff and offer a supportive environment that balances professional ambitions with personal growth, opportunity and work-life balance.
