    • Job summary The West Midlands Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre is based on ward 26 at Heartlands. The Centre currently looks after a pool of approximately 380 adult patients from around the West Midlands region. The Centre has 20 single rooms for in-patients and 10 outpatient rooms and a clinical treatment room. The Centre also houses the cystic fibrosis multidisciplinary team who currently include a CF centre manager, 5 physiotherapists, 6 specialist nurses (4 part time), 4 dieticians, administrator, 2 clinical psychologists and 2 social workers. Medical staff include a Specialist Registrar and junior doctor. Birmingham Heartlands Hospital is a 1000-bedded district general and teaching hospital with close ties to the Birmingham University Medical School. Respiratory care at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital is provided in a 63 bedded medical unit, which includes a non-invasive ventilation bay and 20 bedded CF centre. The respiratory department enjoys national and international reputations and offers comprehensive services with full thoracic surgical back-up provided by 5 Thoracic Surgical Consultants at another site within the Trust. The unit also supports a major research programme and publishes widely. We host the West Midlands Adult Cystic Fibrosis Unit, the Severe and Brittle Asthma Unit, as well as active TB and occupational lung disease services. We also have a large respiratory physiology department providing a full range of lung function testing and sleep & ventilation services. Main duties of the job This will consist of 3 outpatient clinics per week and ward work based on ward 26. Supporting educational and continuing professional development activities have been specified within this job description. If desired, the post-holder will be able to participate on a regular basis in the specialist registrar on-call Rota, a band 2b post, approximately a 1 in 8 on call frequency including weekends (full shift, days only and EWTD and new deal compliant).
