University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Locum Consultant in Haematopathology for 4 months. The service covers the local population and regional referrals from Wessex. You will contribute to the established and experienced Haematopathology subspecialist reporting team, including reporting of lymphoma specimens and attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings. The Southampton Haematopathology team consists of six consultants, three of whom report lymphoma and bone marrow pathology and three report lymphoma pathology. Three also report other specialities. Southampton is a major regional centre for lymphoma and bone marrow treatment and CAR-T cell therapy is provided with increasing numbers of eligible patients. Southampton Haematopathologists provide diagnostic services and MDT provision for over 3 million patients from Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, IOW and the Channel Islands and review cases from a wider area prior to CAR-T cell therapy. The laboratory has an extensive repertoire of antibodies which is regularly added to and the team work in close collaboration with the Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service. Provision of Haematopathology service: The details of the job plan will be subject to discussion with the clinical leads. An expected 10 PAs will typically be split 9DCC to 1SPA for a locum role. The direct clinical care activities principally include microscopic reporting and multidisciplinary team meetings. Slides are allocated using a web based workload management system (SAINTS), developed in-house and based on the RCPath points system to an annualised job plan. The other DCC duties are carried out by rota agreed with the reporting pathologists within the subspecialist team. As a locum post, you will be joining an established team of five consultant Haematopathologists. You will be working within a wider cellular pathology team comprising 23 adult Histopathologist covering all subspecialities aside from medical renal biopsies and cardiovascular pathology, four paediatric pathologists and two neuropathology colleagues. Microscopic reporting is performed via light microscopy, digital pathology (UKAS ISO15189 2022 accredited) or a combination. Networked high-end digital reporting equipment, including voice recognition software, will be provided in a shared reporting space within the department. Microscope will be provided along with access to shared departmental resources including multiheaded microscopes and digital power walls.
