As a Consultant Psychiatrist some of your key responsibilities will include management of complex cases, formulating care plans and treatments for individual needs of service users, and guiding on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness. You will have a caseload of approximately 15-20 inpatients depending on the service user cohort and as a result may have a caseload across different wards. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be: Taking overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT Attending morning handover. Assessing referrals to determine suitability for admission. Undertaking appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment Participating in ward rounds, clinical audit and quality improvement work. Chairing and overseeing CPA reviews. Leading the implementation of risk assessment and management. Participate in clinical governance and ensure implementation of policies and protocols. Working and liaising with external agencies. Writing and supervising various reports including for the Mental Health Tribunal and Managers’ Hearings, and attend hearings. Medical first tier on-call is covered by an external agency. Consultants are expected to take part in second-tier on-call. This is a low intensity on-call at a frequency of approximately 1in7. The post holder will be expected to provide cover for other medical colleagues during leave and other absences and this is reciprocated. To be successful as a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will need: Full GMC registration MRCPsych or equivalent.
