    • Job summary The Orthopaedics Department are seeking to appoint a Junior Clinical Fellow for a period of 12 months to commence as soon as possible. Following the previous successful recruitment campaign at Rotherham, we are now looking to provide an additional job vacancy in the Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics. The successful candidate will participate in day to day care for elective and trauma inpatients. There will be an opportunity to assist in theatre on a weekly basis along with outpatient clinics. The successful candidate will participate in the first on call rota, supported by the ST3+ Higher. You will be encouraged and expected to conduct audit projects. Although this post is not formally recognised for Specialist Medical Training, the post holder will be both expected to, and supported in, taking either the MRCS or completing a MCh (Orth) Degree. Active participation in the audit programme is mandatory. Participation in the ISCP assessment system is anticipated and fully supported by the Department. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic group of consultants within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department. There are 16 Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons specialising in a variety of procedures, such as hip, knee, shoulder, elbow and hand surgery and an Orthopaedic Service for children. The department is also supported by one Associate Specialist, four Specialty Doctors, two Wrightington Fellows, five higher surgical trainees, GPST Trainee, 4 Junior Clinical Fellows (ST1-2 Level), one Lower Level Trust F2 Doctor and two Foundation Year 1 Trainees through Health Education England. The Advanced Clinical Practitioners also support the SHO tier rota. The Department has regular teaching sessions and are committed to further education to assist with the successful candidates career progression. We have Associate Teaching Hospital status with the University of Sheffield and strong links with the South Yorkshire Orthopaedic Training programme with strong representation in the Deanery.     • The post is available from 6th August 2025 based in the Departments of Pancreatobiliary Surgery at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine at the University of Liverpool. The successful applicant will be expected to register for a higher degree at the University of Liverpool (the post is designed to support research for an MD or PhD, subject to satisfactory progress), will receive research training, close supervision and mentorship. The applicant would be expected to undertake their research within the department in an established research programme into pancreatic cancer with the opportunity to be involved in both basic science and clinical research. JOB PLAN It is expected that the successful candidate will spend their working week (Monday-Friday) carrying out lab and research work along with collecting research specimens. There will also be opportunity to assist with clinical research projects within the Pancreatobiliary department. In addition, there will be participation on the on-call general surgery registrar rota 1 in 7 nights (20:30-08:30) and weekend days. There will also be a small teaching commitment of 3-4 hours every 6 months. THE PANCREATOBILIARY UNIT AT LIVERPOOL UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST The Pancreatobiliary unit is run by an established team of Pancreatobiliary surgeons, working within the RLUH providing a Pancreatobiliary cancer resection service as well as managing chronic pancreatitis and severe acute pancreatitis for Liverpool and surrounding areas. This comprises a population in excess of one million patients, and generates approximately 180-200 resections per year. This will include patients from across the region including patients from the catchment area of North and South Liverpool, the Wirral, St Helens and Knowsley, North Cheshire, Southport, Chester, North Wales and the Isle of Man. The service is supported by three SpRs, four Specialist Nurses, a Physician Associate and a dedicated Pancreatobiliary Dietician. There is also a dedicated team of anaesthetists that support the service including preoperative assessment. The regional SMDT is held weekly at RLUH, and is a joint collaboration between Pancreatic Surgeons at RLUH, Gastroenterology/Endoscopy, Medical/Clinical Oncology, Radiology as well as Specialist Nurses and pathology. The unit is also responsible of carrying out complex benign pancreatobiliary work including the management of acute and chronic pancreatitis. THE DEPARTMENT OF MOLECULAR AND CLINICAL CANCER MEDICINE The Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine (DMCCM) is one of six departments within the Institute of Systems and Molecular and Integrative Biology. The Department provides a vibrant home to approximately 200 staff including 30 principle investigators who collectively lead a comprehensive programme of basic, translational and clinical cancer research. Delivering a Quality Service The post-holder will contribute to the service to ensure that people who use substances consistently receive high quality services that adhere to the best practice guidelines and to the highest professional standards. Ensure that procedures are constantly reviewed to promote best practice and evidenced based practice in accordance with UK Guidelines on Clinical Management, NICE guidance, and Change Grow Live clinical protocols and procedures. Leadership Provide clinical leadership within the service, including providing support, coaching, and teaching to staff working at the service around harm reduction including BBVS and health promotion. Dependent on service structure will provide line management/supervision to named health care assistants, student nurse placements and or volunteers working with the nursing team. Team Working To take part in assessing the suitability for transfer of clients to shared care services within the community. To work with others to ensure individuals who use our services have timely access to safe and effective prescribing for community detoxification from substances, across operational sites. Contribute to the overall performance of the service to ensure that contractual output targets are achieved. Working with colleagues in the service to design and deliver a community opioid and alcohol detoxification plan utilising a care co-ordinated approach to service user care. Risk Management Provide harm reduction advice to injecting individuals who use our services, providing information and equipment and ensure all equipment is disposed of safely. Undertake risk assessments and contribute to risk management plans for individuals who use our services engaged in the service. Utilise appropriate prevention techniques to reduce substance misuse related harm and to aid in the prevention of multiple physical harms caused by drugs and alcohol. Managing Information Record and input client data and information in order that the service operates within contractual, administrative, and financial requirements. Ensure that all data requirements in relation to individuals who use our services are met within defined deadlines. The above is an outline of the post holders duties and responsibilities.
