JOB ROLE The Pharmacy Technician will support the medicine management role of the Clinical Pharmacy team to deliver safe and efficient medication safety processes, which would include supporting a cluster of different GP practices. The successful applicant will be enrolled onto a training programme (CPPE) and also provided with guidance and training by a Senior Pharmacist in the team. One of the responsibilities of the role would be to assist practices with making cost effective switches for medication (guided by the Senior Management team) to improve GP practice budget sustainability (e.g. switching away from expensive brands to generic brands). The post holder will help patients to get the best from their medicines by switching medications via an agreed protocol, as well as improving repeat prescribing processes in general practices, including promotion of online ordering, minimising clinical risk and aiming to reduce wasted medicines. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for encouraging the development of better understanding of the principles of medicines optimisation throughout the practice teams and promoting good practice in line with therapeutic developments. This will include monitoring systems and promoting systems already in place relating to drug monitoring and safety, responding to medication alerts received by GP practices, and carrying out some medication reviews with patients. This will involve assisting the GP Federation in achieving national requirements, NICE implementation and utilisation of medicines optimisation initiatives.     • Job summary This post is intended for surgical trainees who wish to obtain experience in and exposure to specialist surgical oncology, specifically surgery for soft tissue sarcoma and advanced melanoma. The successful applicant will work on the Soft Tissue Sarcoma (STS) and malignant melanoma (MM) units at The Royal Marsden Hospital. Approximately eight hundred new cases of STS are referred to the RMH every year and are treated by a multidisciplinary team. All new cases are reviewed at a weekly multidisciplinary meeting where management is discussed. This provides the Fellow with an unparalleled experience. Surgical management included soft tissue tumours of the limbs and limb girdle, intra- abdominal and trunk. About 5% of these patients will require reconstruction of skin and soft tissue. There will be opportunities for clinical research and the preparation of papers for presentation and publication. Similarly, there is a multidisciplinary team handling patients with malignant melanoma. There will be ample opportunities to learn techniques of lymph node dissection, isolated limb perfusion and laser vaporisation of in-transit metastatic melanoma. Main duties of the job The successful applicant will be in day to day administrative and clinical charge of the unit working with another senior clinical fellow, a Senior House Officer who is on rotation from a Basic Surgical Training Rotation as well as a shared SHO at the Sutton branch. At any one time there are likely to be about fifteen inpatients in hospital between both sites. The Clinical Fellow is principally responsible for the daily management of all in-patients. The unit has 3 all day theatre list a week at both sites of the hospital(Fulham Road and Sutton) as well as a minors list on alternating Mondays at the Sutton branch. The clinical fellow will be expected to attend lists at both sites, and internal arrangements are made between the senior clinical fellows to ensure appropriate and fair exposure to surgical procedures. A typical all day list will involve surgery on about 5-7 cases with about 50% of cases being sarcoma, 30% melanoma and 20% benign cases. Major surgery with a requirement for CCU is undertaken at Fulham Road andintermediate and minor surgery is undertaken at the Sutton site. The fellow will be expected to have a lead role in the organization and running of the diagnostic service. This entails triage of referrals, running the diagnostic clinic with the consultant staff, covering the resultant telephone follow-up clinic, and allied major and minor operating lists.
