Job summary This is an exciting opportunity the level one Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit, at Homerton Hospital. The post offers excellent experience working with skilled multidisciplinary teams with adults with severe and complex acquired neurological impairments. There will also be opportunities to participate in the videofluoroscopy and FEES swallowing clinics. The postholder will access clinical supervision from the team lead at RNRU as well as regular peer supervision with the band 6 cohort across Homerton. We have a strong culture of continuing professional development, including external and internal courses. The RNRU provides early inpatient rehabilitation for adults, after single incident neurological events other than spinal injury. The majority of our service users have had head injuries, strokes, subarachnoid haemorrhage or diffuse brain damage, for example from infection or cardiorespiratory arrest. The specialist SLT is one of a skilled and busy speech and language therapy team delivering Main duties of the job This is a new post offering a rare opportunity to work in two of our highly specialist teams providing communication and swallowing rehabilitation to adults with acquired neurological diagnoses. The post holder will be expected to work autonomously day-to-day with presentations including aphasia, apraxia of speech, dysarthria, cognitive communication difficulty and dysphagia. They will have regular clinical supervision sessions from a senior SLT colleague as well as access to online discussion and support. All therapists in the Trust are encouraged to gain skills in student training, and this individual will be supported to take on a Practice Educator role as well as offering support and guidance to the Rehabilitation and Therapy Assistants in the two teams. All team members are encouraged to participate in service development and quality improvement projects in their local services.
