Main duties of the job Exposure to general cardiothoracic surgery plus transplant (opportunity to join our retrieval team), advanced cardiorespiratory support devices (LVAD/ECMO), aortic surgery and minimally invasive thoracic surgery. Our department has a strong emphasis on research and service improvement (recent clinical fellows have earned 1st author national and international presentations and led on service improvement projects). Wythenshawe has a cutting edge, dynamic cardiothoracic surgery and heart and lung transplant department with 8 cardiac and 5 thoracic surgeons, 2 associate specialists, 10 registrars, 3 deanery core trainees and 3 clinical fellows. Supported by ANPs and Specialist Thoracic and Cardiac Nurses. Candidates must have, or be eligible for, GMC registration that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training. Most of the commitments are at Wythenshawe Hospital but the post holder may be required to assist his/her Consultant at some satellite clinics. The job will cover ward, theatre and clinic duties. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the on call rota.
